  1. Viroder Rainbowz!!!!!!

First of all I didn't put this on event section, because I'm not talking about a specific event nor planning one (Both of mine failed)

I think for the number amount of active members we rarely get any event. Just today over 70 registed members were here, in ONE day.

My suggestion is making some admins host some more often. (My opinion)

The problem I think is (most of the time) is that people will say they will be there for an event and when the time comes, gosh darnit something else has come up. It is rare indeed that an actual even does take place. But none the less people still do try to organize event which is good imo.

  5. Gaw discord is my friend now

    • We're organizing a regular 1v1 LoL tournament that will start some time soon.
    • TF2 events became gradually less popular as the game itself became less popular in the community. Most people who do play TF2 do so on Orange and PropHunt which are very active, so there's no need for events. I did run a 'TF2 Fun Night' event for a couple of weeks in Summer, but participation severely reduced when the novelty effect wore off.
    • @spidEY ran a number of superbly organized osu! 'Beat Nights' recently, but I believe he was frustrated with the poor attendance. People signed up, but they didn't show up on the night.
    • I run GMod events semi-frequently, but only when I have new features to unveil or holidays to celebrate. I intended to organize a Winter TTT event, but a combination of school, fresh windows install and Starbound have delayed that for now.
Overall, the lack of events stem from the low motivation of organizers due to poor attendance. We can brainstorm, plan and organize an excellent range of events but history has shown that people will stop caring very rapidly. That's an issue that needs a solution before we can have engaging, regular events.

One of the main problems is real life calls.

I love getting together and playing games with friends, especially competitive ones. I play games to play with friends.

I love events like the TF2 matches and the OSU events, but when you sign up for an event and then someone asks you if you're coming out tonight - real life usually wins, well, for me anyway.

  7. Jolly Long Arm The Moon... It's far away!

Do remember its the Christmas holiday season and people like to be with friends and family
also students generally still have work to do over the period and those in work are most likely doing extra/more hours

  8. Cactus The key is to never give up

We tend not to make events.

What tends to happen is that 10 people are on mumble and may say "hey guys anyone wanna do a 5v5"?

  9. But I guess that would be the very problem right there.

then someone asks you if you're coming out tonight - real life usually wins

That would be an attitude problem though, at least if you ask me.
If you say that you attend an event you shouldn't just ditch it for another. Other people are still relying on you to show up.

(Not targeting you by the way Dan, I just mean in general :) )

There's a big difference between going out with real life friends for a night out and playing a couple games of a game I don't even play for an hour.

I'm very strongly behind the whole, you can form relationships on the internet and be just as good friends with people on the internet as in real life. So it's not a case of, if I value real life friends over people I know on the internet.

It's just, I play games every night. I only really go out once a week, or once every two weeks.

I understand where you're coming from, as in, I've committed to something, I should follow through. But I don't want to be that guy who can't go out because he's signed up for a raid. (@Bluepanther)

We can play games any other night of the week.

You're kidding right? All due respect to my friends on these forums, but if the option arises to go out with a bunch of people and this gathering isn't behind a screen then I'm going to have to say I'd choose that over staying in all night sat at a computer. I'm pretty certain the majority (bar you clearly) here would also go out and meet friends at gatherings or whatever given the chance too.

EDIT: And when I say "all due respect to my friends on these forums" I mean that seriously. Some of you lot are very good friends of mine (I'd like to so think anyway).

  12. You are saying it like you are being some sort of hermit if you don't take people up on an offer when you already agreed to participate in an event.

Literally the complete opposite. How could I even take them out of context when they directly relate to this debate. It's exactly as Dan says it is. We, as a community play games every single day and night. Hell, I'm pretty sure the majority of us would play them 24/7 had we the time and energy. But I can still safely say that I would rather go out and be social one night as opposed to staying in. I can play games anytime I want to and it's almost guaranteed that there will be someone around on mumble or elsewhere to play with. What I can't do is hang out with my "irl" mates every single night for the same amount of time as I spend online. To put it shortly, if I have the chance to leave the house and socialise, nine times out of ten I'm going to leave the house and socialise.

    And i quote:
yeah Sucky because clearly arguing is better when you know how this will end.

Both disagree but both are doing exactly what I said what would happen. Go figure.

  18. But you are taking words out of context. What followed clearly states that you already agreed to attend an event and you are letting these people down because real life kicked in, and as dan put it, you don't want to be the guy who couldn't go out because you signed up for an online event.

I respect your desire to go out when you can. That is not what I am debating here.
But this happens almost every single time an event is planned and people sign up.

They don't show up because real life kicked in. It's just weird to me that this happens almost every time.
It's just an odd mindset to me that you would sign up for an event (not specifically you Sucky, just in general) and then ditch it because real life asked you out instead. It's like those people who vote "Maybe" on a Facebook event just to make sure nothing better shows up so they can change the Maybe to a No.
