Community effort to make server #4 as popular as #3 Dustbowl If you have been filling Dustbowl server in the recent 6 months, you have probably seen how quick it is to fill. People have it on favorites and more importantly it is known to fill quickly, adding to the appeal of joining it even with less players on. We want the same for server #4 ( and eventually for server #5 ). It is a nice cool breath of fresh air, rotation of maps with variety to Dustbowl, no random crits to encourage more skill rather than luck ( the kritzkrieg works as usual ofc ) , 26 slots for less spam and possibilities to use all classes unlike in the tight corridors of Dustbowl. I'm calling out for each Private and Public community member to assist in populating the server #4 every night when after 1900 gmt whenever you see another fellow GM on the server. Have lots a fun games, ...

If you don't know a map on the rotation server you may be put off for fear of reprisal. 2) It shouldn't take too long if we all start going to #4 instead of #3. 3) The benefits are increased skill (crits off) and a new take on how you play the game with a hightened awarenes of tactics and teamwork due to fewer slots being available. Should be more fun to play different maps -- dustbowl is becoming rather tedious as of recent times

Re: Community effort to make server #4 as popular as #3 Dustbowl 1) Dustbowl is popular because... the config has been stable for a long time, mostly 24/7 Dustbowl since summer 2008[/*:m:1e1cn71t] known friendly atmosphere[/*:m:1e1cn71t] pretty much a standard TF2 server for a beginning player, not too serious nor too random/casual[/*:m:1e1cn71t] great group of admins on the server often present[/*:m:1e1cn71t] everything is familiar[/*:m:1e1cn71t] many have it on favorites[/*:m:1e1cn71t] on top of the server browser list with max 32 slots with 0-3 usually free[/*:m:1e1cn71t] This knowledge is implemented on server #4... will be running relatively stable config which has already proven to be a strong choice[/*:m:1e1cn71t] atmosphere will match the GM community[/*:m:1e1cn71t] same admins taking care of the server[/*:m:1e1cn71t] not a strictly serious server but with more emphasis on team communication than on server #3[/*:m:1e1cn71t] will be advertised on other GM server, and added to favorites as a GM Rotation server[/*:m:1e1cn71t] 26 slots partly because of slightly added visibility immediately after 33, 32 and 30 slot servers[/*:m:1e1cn71t] 2) Time to near-full: Currently the server #4 will have 10+ teams in anytime between 30 minutes and 2 hours, but that is going to change after this announcement. We will wait to see how drastic is this change since each community member will effect this with their preferences, in best case scenario server #4 will become self-filling during March (<30 minutes to near full) without a concentrated effort from the community. 3) The benefits: GM community's TF2 experience is unfortunately very much tied to 32-slot Dustbowl with its unique characteristics. The benefits of having a popular community rotation server include (but are not limited to) increased satisfaction from variety in maps / configs [/*:m:1e1cn71t] knowledge of more maps[/*:m:1e1cn71t] ability to use more classes effectively[/*:m:1e1cn71t] learning more tactics and strategies with teams' class balance and terrain not found on Dustbowl[/*:m:1e1cn71t] After discussing this in leadership, adding to the understanding and more comprehensive TF2 experience is one of our major goals. It is fascinating though not preferred to find a player that will excel on Dustbowl with some certain classes, but when playing on other official maps he gets utterly lost. This does not serve any purpose to anyone, and an amount of "Dustbowl fatigue" can be felt in the air. A rotation server has been requested a long long time and the only obstacle for not having it today has been the missing effort of making it popular.
Re: Community effort to make server #4 as popular as #3 Dustbowl Erm ...... it runs Dustbowl only ? :mrgreen: It's the most players favourite' map, and the fact that we run a full 32 slot server with good ping for many players and some pretty skilled players online in the evening it just became popular from its own ... well, that's why i started playing here and became a regular, later i even wanted to join the clan.

I remember core, I and some GM members went on the server and filled it up less than 30mins then we went to next server and filled it up. also remember we had a IP change and had to start over. Some views on rotations server: -people not used to the maps(keep it 5 maps max or so) -some people like playing on the same map for at least 1-2 hours, not map change every 30-40 mins. -crits are off, yea i know it rocks, but people get ownd by skills players and ragequit! -Also I noticed there's no HLStatsX points on that server too :S i dont mind but that could be one of the reason why people dont join. (today there was no points) yes u right KJ, server 4 needs sorting out, it was crashing and I was get some insane freeze lags. *had to quit tf2 via task manager* :|
Re: Community effort to make server #4 as popular as #3 Dustbowl i only join rotation when a friend asks to and if DB is boring. when i start up TF2 i always check DB too, most of the times its full and rotation is empty, when DB was full i useally went to goldrush server because its my second fave map, but thats gone and rotation is always empty, so i do DB auto-join.

That's one of the best maps in this game, never plays it anymore because there are only 16-player servers up with that map. I love the asymmetrical layout and that it has lots of smaller maps + 1 capping point each, too bad they haven't put in the effort in promoting it.. (valve.) Erik
Re: Community effort to make server #4 as popular as #3 Dustbowl The reason ppl don't like hydro is the lack of alternative routes and tight chokepoints. Teams of 12 are too much to fight in the space they have, and its simply not fun.

Re: Community effort to make server #4 as popular as #3 Dustbowl i like hydro too and i wish more ppl would play it anyway if anyone would be playing the rotation server more frequent i would insta join them instead of that godforsaken place called dustbowl i also have a question about the arena server: WHY is the slot limit higher than teh team-limit?? why is there a team-limit at ALL? i LOVE arena maps but i never go to the GM arena server because you have to wait so much :\ there's always 4+ ppl stuck on spec because of the team-limit i play arena on some other server which runs 24 slot limit and it's ALWAYS filled because there is no team-limit (plus it's the only populated arena server)

Re: Community effort to make server #4 as popular as #3 Dustbowl It should be clear to all that a server is popular only when it is regularly filled for a longer time, and that filling thing is easy or hard depending mostly by how many people are willing to join when its not full. It is a community effort because we have such a big community that the popularity would not be an issue if everyone and I repeat everyone would join to play on it on the specified time (1900 gmt each day, particularly on weekends). Dustbowl is only one map and while it is fun, it does not equal a full experience of TF2. The maps we rotate on #4 are the most common official maps, and each of them has positive sides that you should learn to appreciate and enjoy. It is my opinion that if one wants to get something, one should first give something. Don't make any excuses, like "not my favorite map on" or "I'll come later when its more full" or "I'll come in a while (if it fills quickly)". Let me emphasize that if you don't make an effort by yourself, don't expect anything is return. Our server, our job to fill it. This goes especially for the Private community. Nothing worth having is easy, so pull your own weight.
