New PC

  1. Cactus The key is to never give up

    Hi guys,

I'm looking to a build a new PC. I have very little knowledge of actual building computers (started with hand me down laptop (which I wore down so much lol - 10-20fps on TF2 and a bunch of keys fell off the keyboard), then went to a bought PC, now have a decent spec laptop for uni) and I'm looking to spend about £750-£1000.

I'm not in a huge rush, so I don't mind waiting a few months to wait for better parts, or to grab pieces on sale.

I do not need a mouse or keyboard.

I would like an SSD and a decently sized HDD (1gb would do, but I'd probably want 1.5-2gb).

I would like to get another monitor as well so that would probably have to go in the budget as well (however, I can worry about that later as I do have one monitor I can use already).

Unless I have money left over I don't really need anymore than 8GB ram.

    Thanks for the help.

Well there are fairly good prebuilt systems out there if you dont want to get involved with building one.
searching around for about 15 minutes i found this for 900£

    https://www.scan.co.uk/products/sca...6gb-evga-gtx-1060-sc-240gb-ssd-1tb-hdd-win-10

What i can see is that they cheaped out on powersupply & motherboard but you won't be overclocking a I5 7400 anyway with a motherboard chipset that allows overclocking past anything that the max turbo allows.

Powersupply is fairly cheap 450w powersupply but with the small power the components pull these days it's unlikely you'll see the need for more as it has an efficent single rail design.
My old rig which was an overclocked phenom II 1090t at 3.7 ghz perhaps 140w tdp
+ my r9 280 at 250w tdp at max load & the rest of the system which is perhaps another 30w and that didn't overload a older split rail 500w powersupply.
(432w in total on both 12v rails so a 450w powersupply with a single 12v rail should be more then enough.)

Otherwise the components id look after is at least a Ryzen 5 1600 or I5 along with 8 gb ram.
(Check so that ddr4 kit is compatible with the motherboard in their support list first as ryzen & certain motherboards dont play along well at all.)
(B350 motherboard to overclock ryzen processors & Z270 or Z170
(Depending on what generation of intel cpu you go for here ofc.) cant put a socket 1151 motherboard & a socket 1150 cpu ofc, it has to be the same.

    GTX 1050 TI,GTX 1060 3 GB,GTX 1060 6 GB,RX 480,RX 470,RX 570,RX 580 for a graphics card.
Though with the mining craze it might be difficult to find one at a reasonable price when building your own system in comparison too buying a pre built system.
While harddrives, ssd's & the rest is fairly standard and up too you on what to pick.
(Just about anything within your 1000£ budget wouldn't need more then 600w on the powersupply at best with overclocking on both gpu & cpu. (Ofc do look after one with at least 3 years of warranty.)

Few more stores below here that are worth checking out if they got any other good prebuilt systems & perhaps bundles with motherboard, ram, cpu like scan should have.

  3. I used this website when I was buying a pc: https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/

The forums there have a lot of insight into building PC's and they have good ones for your price range. For example, this pc: https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/guide/wMgXsY/modest-gaming-build - A good price for what is in it. You can use this site to help add up the price for all the parts and check for any compatibility issues. There is also a large number of guides for new builders, that are really helpful.

MM, don't forget that RX x80/x70 can't be bought for decent prices anymore. Your chance is more in the GTX 1050Ti and 1060. For CPUs, i would recommend a Ryzen 5. Just get yourself a 240GB/120GB SSD and a 2TB 7200rpm HDD. :)
