  1. Scammer tried to scam me.

Just decided to post this, nothing special as he just wrote "Improper format: Please state your username/password" all the time <.< Thought he should have another reaction :(

You'd be amazed how many actually fall for that. :|
That particular one was almost believable with the bot-talk and all, don't you think? But in a random chat?
Seen some "send an email to steamthisvalvethatAThotmailDOTcom with your login info and get all games for free!" and like thousands of people fell for it

Aw, geez! That's crazy-scary. We've already had one GM member's Steam account get hijacked, but that was via a download of a wallpaper from someone they thought they could trust... turned out they downloaded a virus that revealed their password.
Well, good for both of you, for recognizing a scam when you see one... :) and thanks for alerting the rest of us. :D

    lol

the bots or whoever it is won't talk!

never give your password to anyone even vavle.

  5. Re: Scammer tried to scam me.

Yep, Valve knows your pw anyway, they just have to look into their DB.
It is the same like the fishing mails for username, pw, and TAN-Codes from a bank...
a bank knows all your data, they would never ask you per mail...

But the wallpaperattack is evil... i didn't knew of attacks like this...

Hope that guy talks to me ill just say Fuck/You :D

  7. Re: Scammer tried to scam me.

Myke: No, they can't see the password because it's encrypted in the database, otherwise it would be too easy to hack into the db and just take the passwords.

Re: Scammer tried to scam me.

It's all done using the same encryption so they can just encrypt their own passwords and insert them into the users Pword box

  15. Re: Scammer tried to scam me.

They know their encryption salt so they can easily encrypt a new password for you. However they cannot easily reverse their encryption to reveal your old password.

  16. Re: Scammer tried to scam me.

It's pretty much impossible to decrypt for example, md5 hashes, yes, it could work with a hash dictionary.. But it's very unlikely.

  17. Re: Scammer tried to scam me.

I wonder how long time that takes....... :P
