So my home server is now running like shit, which leaves me in the difficult position of windows vs linux.
At the moment im using Windows Server 2008 R2.
Services: HTTP, FTP, SQL, WSUS, Daily backups, Active Directory, File server.

So, stay with windows or attempt linux?
Or what else i was thinking is a Citrix Zen server installed, then Windows and linux in VPS's so ive got the best of both world.

    Hmm, ive got no idea

What is your server spevs. That helps.

If you use things like AD and windows stuff, then it may be a case of upgrade the bastard.

And your server is running like shit... oh boy.

If you want to get anywhere, upping your RAM would help. If you're running many services on that box, you'd be surprised how fast the memory disappears. That would probably speed things up a little bit. I don't really think 4GB running Server 08R2 is ideal. I used to run it on my old Athlon 64 1GB RAM, it was alright but that was with just file server and RDP.

Not sure what else to suggest, my Windows Server experience is a little dried up after using linux boxes for the last year-and-a-half.

Well, im thinking of scrapping the full server and building a little i3 system, just need to save up the monies
