Updated the birthdays sidebar widget to exclude members with 0 posts

 

• Have set up grub2 such that by default it boots into one of the two recovery partitions - have to explicitly tell it to boot into normal OS prior to a manual reboot, so in the case of unexpected reboot/crash/etc, the chances of the server becoming 'stuck' are extremely low.
• Additionally can now get into recovery without going through KVM
• Created a simple script for recovery to get back into normal OS again without any fuss
• Configured SSH server on both recovery partitions, so no need for KVM in order to control recovery

non-techie version:

• the thing that i broke everything trying to set up is now working 100%
• massively reduced instances where KVM is needed
• massively reduced chance of downtime of more than a few minutes, it would literally have to be a hardware failure
• i am a wizard

 

1 month solid, only minor network outages and one unplanned reboot (with no more than 2 minutes downtime) due to my own optimistic actions rather than instability

And replays have been back on for a few days with no issues, everything is completely gravy

As nearly 12 hours of maintenance draws to a close... (full story on the facebook group)

- Moved to Long Term Support kernel (should be more stable, and supports newer r8168 network module)
- Fixed various filesystem issues
- Updated SSD firmware
- Updated Seagate 3TB firmware (fuck you seagate)
- Moved to systemd (a massive but necessary change, our previous initscripts system was not only deprecated but actually completely unsupported in recent updates)
(fuck you LVM)
- Transitioned over 9000 services to systemd
- Started the process of rewriting some custom services as systemd services - for example darkisock and kirino should be significantly more reliable now.

Baked channel/user serialisation into Kirino, so mumble widget is back and no longer requires crazy amounts of maintenance

 

• Manually patched HLstatsX:CE to support the new steam ID format
