    Linux - Which distro?

I'm thinking of installing linux on my notebook, since it's a bit old to be used for anything besides downloading, writing, webdesigning, etc. I used Slackware and Ubuntu, but I'm also interested in other distros, just dunno which one to choose. Any opinions welcome.

I tried Ubuntu on my laptop (I just use it for browsing and anime), and absolutely hated it. Stripped down XP along with Diskeeper and Tuneup Utilities 2009 is just so much faster and nicer to use.

I tried Ubuntu b4, it takes time to get use to btw.

Yeah like FastJohn said Ubuntu takes some time to get use to, but it is actually quite good.

    I recommend debian.

Everything is nearly based on debian.

Yes, but debian is a pain in the ass to config and stuff, ubuntu needs only installing and it's ready :D

    Re: Linux - Which distro?

I decided to give Debian a try on a virtual box first. Tried OpenSolaris yesterday but I couldn't configure some drivers and stuff. :(

    Re: Linux - Which distro?

I tried FrugalWare, Debian, OpenSolaris in the last 2 days, and now Debian looks alright on the virtual PC, so I guess tonite I'll install it to the notebook. I just need to backup some stuff...
Changed my mind, I'm installing OpenSolaris now. And I'll make the backups later. :D

Yeah I've decided that if I ever feel the urge to try linux again I will try Mac OSX instead.

    Re: Linux - Which distro?

Yeah but for x86 PCs it's kinda like gambling, since there arent many drivers. Plus my notebook is only sse2 which is the really low minimum for it :)

Well I was tinkering with debian/gnome all day and finally I could get it working the way I wanted to:
