Malware problem launching steam HELP ! :D

Discussion in 'Random' started by Freak0ut, 27 Jul 2012.

  1. Hi guys i just tried to open my steam acc and it was updating something before i logged in, then my avast antivirus founds malware virus and blocks steam.

So should i just ignore it or what ?
If anyone had this problem and knows the solution please help :)

  2. Ok guys i just disabled all avast shields and logged in, and then just unblocked shields and it all works fine for me now.

I know you already fixed it but here is something to prevent this from happening again in the future.
Go to Real-time Shields, File System Shield, Expert Settings, Exclusions, add the Steam folder.

Had the same thing this morning while trying to log on Steam. Just added Steam on to Avast's not-check list, helped. :)

Avast is alright, but it's very... delicate and sensitive and starts to flag off warnings the moment you even breathe. (Being overdramatic here but that was what my last experience was like)

  12. I'd love to see a free AV with the option to hook execution (both in memory and from disk) rather than all file reads - almost completely eliminates the resource consumption but same levels of protection.

So far I've only found Eset/NOD32 to do this so it's what I use

To be fair it's like alcohol, everyone prefers something that is different to others, Avast does what i need it to, and my system is speedy.

But... ESET does it 10x better

mfw RossyMac rates my post agree, but I can guarantee he has no idea what hook execution means.

AVG anti-virus free all the way :3:

edit: mfw when you try to point out i know less than you when you're past university and i'm 15.. nice one. Also, you said "ESET does it 10x better" than what Gnome said "it does what I need it do"... which was not hook execution you douglas... just Ribbins at it again?

AVG Free.... the detection is good but the bloat it loads with it, not so good.

Also, no need to take me so seriously. Sheesh. And I'm still in University. (still being the key word here)

Hoped you'd take from the last part I'm not being serious either. :)

But yeah if you set AVG on minimal priority it's good. Only annoying thing is the so-called "scheduled scans" that pop up at random times during the day... (meaning I have not scheduled them for that time ;) ).
