When i finished wrapSteamworks.dll for Lime Entertainment purposes, i decided to show a small part of source code to him. After all, he got an idea of making "Current playing thingy" BUT in form of plugin for Winamp (Winamp sucks).
He told me to code it... But i've chosen to make Winamp API Compatible app, because everyone knows there are plenty of players supporting Winamp API... Like my beloved AIMP2. <3
It changes your alias to [Prefix Here] [Track Name] each [Interval] ms.

Doesn't require .NET or any additional crap. Just PC with Steam running + you have to be connected to Steam Friends Network. Yes, that's all.

woow, sounds epic but wont it just dominate your name because theres a character limit. Or would it go where the game is?

There's also character limit for prefixes.
As you can see, it uses Steamworks SDK to change name and in fact, it's recognized as game in Steam.

Plox support Spotify, main media source - don't bother with music much only on iPod etc...

It supports all Winamp API compatible players.

Updated to 1.1.0.
Added ID3v1 tags support and changed UI.

 

I know this is an extremely old post and I don't mean to dig it from its grave but, is this planning to be updated for Steam's current UI? Seeing as when I try to use this one, it keeps coming up with I/O errors.

 

I see. Is there any plans for this? I'm not exactly familiar with the new SteamKit2 for coding otherwise I would do it myself.

I have looked into it, and SteamKit2 will not be able to do this.
I have to log on to a separate session on Steam through SteamKit2 to even be able to access the local alias.

So unless you didn't plan on using Steam for other than...broadcasting what music you are playing in your alias there is no point to it. Steam4NET is another solution (according to Dark) but it seems it's severely outdated.

 

No problem. It's obviously not a huge necessity, would have just been something fun to have!
