TF2 lag survey

Discussion in 'Server/Website Chat' started by Dark, 26 Dec 2012.

  1. If you experience lag spikes, please report the following in this thread:

    1. Server you were on
    2. Does the server you are on or any other GM server (including Minecraft and other games) have more than 10 players currently?
    3. The number of players on the server where the lagspike occurred
    4. Approximate duration of lagspike(s)
    5. Approximate time between lagspikes, or since the previous one occurred
    6. Approximately when (or how long before your post) the last lag occurred - please try and report as soon as possible after the lag so the answer to question #2 is accurate.
    7. Were you leaving the spawnpoint as it occurred?
    8. Was it severe enough to cause a temporary timeout? (red text at top right)
    9. Do you have reason to believe it affected everyone on the server?
    10. Do you regularly get lag on other TF2 servers?
    11. Are you aware of rate settings and if so, are they set appropriately? (orangex3 can require rate 100000 or more)

Indeed, but surely the server should be able to cope and not exhibit annoying spikes of lag, no?

  8. There seems to be a general problem when it's 32 players or anything between 28 and 32 players.
I remember this from other servers where the game started becoming funky when it was more than 28 players.

It struggled at 28 players too.

  9. 150 slots is pretty high load, more than one server per physical core

And a lot of the active servers were 32 slots, exponentially higher load

Yeah this is why valve doesnt like >24 slots

Been noticing that recently. A few users (including myself) ping just shoot up for no reason at all.

  12. We are a couple of versions of r8168 behind, might have a fix for this so will reboot when things die down

I've been getting shite vpn performance since the update that was necessary for linux 3.6+, so I guess something isn't right with it
